Stay On Track During The Winter

It can be extremely difficult to stay on track with your goals over the winter months, but with these 3 tips below you can keep motivation high and continue to make progress towards your strength and fitness

Do you struggle to stay on track during the dreaded UK winter? Days get darker and colder, motivation decreases, and training takes a back seat. In this blog, we will share tips on how to stay on track during the winter

The winter challenge: maintaining your goals

It can be extremely difficult to stay on track with your goals over the winter months, but with these 3 tips below, you can keep motivation high and continue to make progress toward your strength and fitness goals.

  • Prioritise preparation: eliminate excuses

We’ve all heard that poor preparation leads to poor performance, and that’s no different in the winter.

Keeping prepared is one of the most vital things you can do during these months to ensure you don’t leave things to chance and give yourself an excuse not to get after it.

Aim to make things as convenient as possible, whether that means prepping your meals, laying out your gym clothes the night before, setting alarms or even booking sessions with training partners or classes.

  • Embrace accountability: find your support system

Which brings me on to my next point...

Find someone or something to be accountable to. It’s easier to let yourself down than someone else. Try to find a training partner or sign up for a group session. This will hugely increase your chances of showing up and putting in the work.

Another way to be accountable is to set a deadline on your goal, whether that’s by booking an event, reaching a certain milestone or even just telling your friends you want to achieve ‘X’ by ‘Y’

  • Rely on habits: consistency is key

Lastly, rely on your habits, which have been built over the last few months, to remain consistent with your efforts.

Yes, likely, you may not want to go to the gym or run outside when it’s dark and it’s cold. BUT the habit is likely already there, you just need to continue to show up. Not only will this help build and develop more resilience, which will have a huge return in the warmer months. But it will also mean that you won’t have to spend weeks or even months building those routines again in the future.

Plan for success: prioritise your well-being

Set aside some time to plan your week and days so that training is a priority, not only for your physical benefit but also mentally—which is hugely important on the darker days.
